Up on the hill at the Gipson Cemetery with the hugh old Oak Tree that must be close to 100 years old. James and Monica Cook were looking for Cook family members grave markers or stones that have apparently disappeared over the years. Most of the stones that are seen beyond the tree to the right and left are Cook family members that were buried there prior to about 1915. |

Raymond Cook when a young man living in Gipson, Arkansas. Both his father James S. Cook and mother Alice Ada Nelson Cook died at very young ages, James was 40 years old and Ada was 37 years old. At the time James S. Cook died Raymond was only 16 with 2 younger sisters and a very young brother to help take care of. When he came of age (21) the Trustee of the Cook Estate, Austin Bethel, turned everything over to Raymond to manage. At one time James S. Cook had a substantial farming and business operation in and around Gipson, Arkansas. However, due to his failing health from consumption before his death, some problems of mismanagement by the family after Mr. Cook's death, and then the severe depression of the 30's sort of finished things off. |
