** INTRODUCTION TO PROJECT **

This work is meant to give an historical glimpse of several families that came together through their descendants in the beautiful Poteau Valley of Scott County, Arkansas during the later part of the 19th century. Then in the 20th Century, especially during the terrible Depression of the 1930's, many of the children and grandchildren of those early settlers of Bates, Cauthron, Hon, Gibson, Weeks and other little towns or communties that existed in the western edge of Scott County scattered to the four winds. Today in the beginning of the 21st Century only a very few members of those pioneer families, just like those little towns or settlements, remain in Scott County.

As defined in a dictionary - genealogy refers to a recorded history of the ancestry or descent of a person or family. The primary aim of this undertaking is to assemble the names, dates, places and various other types or kinds of recorded information that is related, relevant and serves as a focus point in the development of this project and that may be of interest to the descendants of all the particular families involved. The two main families that this project starts with are the McCords and Cooks that lived in Bates and Gibson, Arkansas in the late 1800's to the mid 1900's. More specifically the Henry Junius and Clara McCord family and the James Samuel and Ada Alice Cook Family. Those related families and/or family members as traced are the more direct anscestors or descendants of the two fore-named families at this time.

In this Project there are five (5) main divisions within each Family section, they are:

Family Group Charts - Graphically illustrates the direct line of descendants of a common ancestor. Each page in this section consist of a basic family group composed of the husband, wife, their children, their childrens spouse and grandchildren. Information consists of individuals name; date and place of birth, date and place of death. Further information about each individual is provided in the Personal Information Record Pages, the Family Group Information Pages, the Notes Section and/or the Documentation Section.

The Notes Pages - In this section you will find notes of interest, quotes, excerpts, and/of extracts from articles, books or references, various types of public records, newpaper announcements, magazines, etc.

The Documentation Gallery - In this section you find photographs and/or images of items of interest. Items might include documents, records, maps, and print items from newpapers, books, etc.

Family Group Information Pages - These Pages give basic family information for a Family Group consisting of Mother and Father with their Parents, Children of the married couple and Grandchildren. Includes Names, Dates and other basic statistical bits of information.

Individual Personal Information Pages - These Pages give basic information on Individuals, such as Names of Spouse(s), Father and Mother, Number of Children, and other basic statistical bits of information dealing with that Individual.
