| PHOTO # 1 Three unknown Stewart young men. It is believed that this photo might be as related in letter below with the three men being David Clead Stewart (B. 1892) son of James T. Stewart; Willie Gray "Dock" Roberts (B. 1891), son Thomas and Margerette Roberts and Robert "Bob" Gann (B.1886), son of C. H. and Namie Gann. |
PHOTO # 2 Winsor Stewart (B. 1885) son of James Theodore and Martha "Mattie" Lanier Stewart. Winsor and David Clead at left were half brothers. Clead's mother was James T. Stewart's 2nd wife - Catherine Gann Faulkner Stewart. |

| PHOTO # 3 Unknown Woman with young child related to the Stewarts . The woman appears to possibly be of Native American ancestory. It is obvious the letter refers to a picture of a woman who's last name is Green. Could this woman be Lenora Faulkner Green? Could the child be Foster Stewart the son of John T. Stewart, the son of James T. and Catherine Gann Stewart. In the sentence of the letter that mentions Sis Green you will note the reference to a Fred and Boss. Lenora's husband Gilbert M. Green had a relative by the name of Fred Green. Also See the letter below to Sharon Reece from Gilbert Green. |
PHOTO # 4 A another young man that we don't known his name or anything about him for sure. In the letter below there is a mention of a picture of an Arthur Fine that lived on North Walnut Street and apparently he was connected to a Jewel, Spencer and a Boyce (Boyle?) In 1920 there was an Arthur Fine, born in 1909, the son of James and Minda Fine, they lived in Sallisaw and had 4 children- Spencer, Jewel, Boyle, and Ather (Arthur?) And they did live on North Walnut in Sallisaw. |

Letter from Clead Stewart to Billie Stewart Atkinson; 9-27-76
Sallisaw, Okla 9-27-76
Dear Willie and Irvin,
Was sure glad to hear from you and hope both are well. I was glad to help you out with the paper that you sent me. I remember very well when you was born. We were all happy to see you. That was happy days. Their, your Dad and mother, (Note: this would be Will and Nallie Stewart; Will was Clead’s half brother and the son of J.T. Stewart) was so good to us. I tried to be a brother to him. As he did his part well toward me.
I recall that year he lived there. When we got our crop laid by, me and him went to Sunny Gile Hollow. That was north of where Aunt Belle lived. And hauled stone bolts over to Bunch. Of course we had to camp out. There happened to be a house there that we tried to stay in. The first night was a bad one. We made our bed down on the floor. We had not been asleep very long. We began to get some bites. We got up and lit the lantern and got to looking and we found bed bugs everywhere. And you might no (know) what we did. We moved out, and left it with them bugs.
I think very often of Vonnie. Had not heard of her for some time. I just hope she is getting along alright. Would like to here from all the rest of the folks. Just wish we could have a reunion of the Stewart's. I went to see Winsor when he became bedfast. He was at Farrells at Bakersfield. He was bad about falling. I think that was his problem the last time he fell the pelvic bone was broken. The Dr. told Farrell he would never get over it.
Sure would like to see your girls. They were small the last time I saw them and glad to that each one has a good education.
Dr's are need here in Sallisaw. You can't get one to call your home like Dr. Cheek and Dr. Marrow did.
I was sure glad to get the picture you sent. That was me and Dock and Bob Gann. Just guessing when that was taken. I think it was about 1902. I was borned in 1892, Nov. 24. That has been a long time ago. (See PHOTO #1)
You were wanting to know about Arthur Fine; you said you had some picture of him. (See PHOTO #4) I will give you his address. 708 North Walnut Street. As to Jewel and Spencer and Boyce, I don't no their address. The picture you have of Sis Green you could send it to me and I will give it to Fred or Boss.(See PHOTO #3)
Me and Allie are not doing to good. She will soon be 80 years old. I will be 84 years old Nov. 24. The boys and their families are getting along all right. E.C. is a rural route mail carrier. Shawnee works for the Hiway Dept. at Okla City. Bill lives at Tulsa. He is with the Court of Inquiries.
My health is not to good. I have some heart problems and hi blood pressure. Not bad but I am on a diet. I just hope that papers are o.k. If not please call on me. I will help any way I can.
With love to all.
Clead and Allie and boys. |

My name is Gilbert Faulkner Green James T. Stewart married my grandmother, Catherine Faulkner in 1885. From this union, two children were born (John T. Stewart and David Clead Stewart). John T. Stewart married Maude Wright. Lightening on June3, 1914 here in Sallisaw, OK. killed John T. Stewart. Maude died in October 1918. They had two children, Marion Stewart and Foster Stewart. They lived with my Mother, Lenora Faulkner Green. Marion died in 1941 and had one child, a girl named Doris Willis. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ __ _ _ _ _ Foster Stewart was married and divorced. He had one child, a son, whose name I can't recall. Foster went into the service and passed away just out of service.
David C. Stewart lived to be about 95 years old and had three children, all boys. E.C. Stewart lives in _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ . Shawnee Stewart worked _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ . Bill Stewrt retired_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ . As you can see, I don't know much history about the John T. Stewart family. I do know he was appointed recorder for the Cherokees in this area. He would record deeds and contract in both Cherokee and English. I am the son of Lenora B. Faulkner Green and Gilbert Mario Green. I am the last living member of my family, and have lived in Akins and Sallisaw all my life. My Dad was known as Bert Green and he was a partner in the Wicket and Green Store. If I can be of any more help to you, please call me. I have enclosed a copy of My Cherokee Ancestry. Samuel B. Lessley, my cousin, put this together. For more information you might contact E. C. Stewart, son of David Stewart.
Sincerely,
Gilbert Green |
